ABOUT ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE SYLLABUS
Preschool & PRE-PRIMARY AND PRIMARY IN DANCE (2 1/2 – 7 YEARS)
Classes prepare students for ballet and other dance genres at higher levels. They also develop:
- physical skills
- expression, and
- musicality using a range of movement and musical styles.
GRADED BALLET (GRADES 1–8) (7–14+ YEARS)
The Graded Examinations in Dance consists of three disciplines:
- Ballet – the foundation and the most important part of the syllabus.
- Free Movement – incorporating styles such as Natural Movement, Contemporary and Classical Greek Dance.
- Character – the presentation of national styles, using original ethnic dance and music. The three styles — Hungarian, Russian and Polish — were selected due to their importance in the development of classical ballet.
VOCATIONAL GRADED BALLET (INTERMEDIATE FOUNDATION–INTERMEDIATE)
This provides an in-depth study of ballet developing technique, music and performance skills and introducing Pointe work for female candidates. This highly-focused and practical training prepares students for a dance career. These levels are for students from 11 years-old and those studying at this level should have the maturity and aptitude to respond to demanding study.
